Who I am
I have worked as a Speech Language Pathologist in districts big and small for over 20 years. As the sibling of a person with communication needs and the parent of two grown children, I look at the communication challenges that I see today with a lifespan perspective as I consider next year and beyond. I understand the importance of listening closely to parents and helping them advocate effectively for their child. I believe it is key to clearly communicate what works to everyone in the child’s environment so we are all using the same language and providing coherent support.
I love research and stay current with the evidence base in my field. I made the switch to private practice because I want the opportunity to follow best practices and to engage more fully with parents.
I am passionate about helping children express themselves confidently in all modalities of language: spoken, heard, written and read. I want them to understand the What and the Why of their challenges as well as what we are going to do about it. I am playful, creative and grounded in current research.
Andria S., Special Education Teacher/BCBA/parent
“Jennifer encourages parents and educators to advocate for their child/student to receive the services they may require and provides parent education that is essential to understanding the language and social development of children. As a special education teacher and a parent of a child with a communication delay, I greatly appreciate Jennifer’s willingness to be clear and direct regarding my child’s level of functioning. She goes above and beyond to ensure I understand what my child is/should be working on to improve her communication skills, and does so with compassion and grace. I can not recommend her enough to anyone looking for speech and language services for their child.”
Geane, Parent
“We would like very much for you to know how incredibly impressed we are with the care and skill you exhibit when working with our son. We both agree that you manage to excite something in him that not only keeps him engaged for an hour, but also inspires him to engage in language in ways we seldom experience either here at home or while observing his interactions with others.”
